Final Expense Insurance After 80
Yes, it still exists — with fewer carriers, smaller amounts and a price that reflects the age. Here is exactly who issues what past 80, and how to decide whether it is worth it.

Guaranteed acceptance (no health questions) is available to age 85 at Mutual of Omaha (from 45), Fidelity Life (from 50) and Colonial Penn (from 50); Gerber Life and Corebridge stop at 80. Amounts top out at $25,000. Final expense with a few health questions is offered to 85 by several carriers and pays in full from day one if approved. Past 85, options narrow sharply — call us.

Is It Worth It At This Age?
- If the family has $10,000 set aside and can reach it within days, insurance may not add much.
- If the money would otherwise come from a credit card or a child's savings, it usually is.
- If you can answer a few health questions, ask for final expense first — full benefit from day one and a lower price.
- Buy the smallest amount that covers the funeral you want; the premium scales with the amount.
For The Adult Child Arranging It
Most policies after 80 are arranged by a son or daughter. You can own and pay for the policy with your parent's signature and name yourself beneficiary; see the adult-children guide. Have your parent's date of birth, state and a sense of the amount ready, and plan for both of you to be on the call.
